Neverhood in Kandovan

Iran, , Azarbayjan, Kandovan-near Tabriz.

It was a really interesting city. Unfortunately I couldn't find any reliable source of information about it on the web. According to the locals, it was built when the moguls attacked Iran so that the locals can hide in the mountains to be safe from the moguls.

There are still 800 people living there. There are actually only 3 places in the world that have similar structures: Kandovan, somewhere in turkey and somewhere in US, and all except for kandovan are abandoned.

Oh and by the way, the kandovan tunnel is named such because Reza Shah brought people from kandovan to build the tunnel since they were experts in caving into the mountains.

This photo reminds me of houses in The Neverhood, doesn't it?
